Overview

When the Chevrolet Bolt EV hit the scene, it wasn’t just a game-changer for GM—it shook up the entire electric vehicle industry. With a price tag that made it accessible to many and a range that outdid other affordable EVs like the Leaf, the Bolt EV rendered its competitors virtually irrelevant.

While over the years, Chevy has further evolved the Bolt into a more well-rounded small electric hatchback, they went a step further by introducing the Bolt EUV.

Although its production run was brief, the Bolt EUV combined all the advantages of the Bolt EV hatchback in a form that appealed more to American buyers. Essentially the smallest ‘SUV’ in the Chevy lineup, this battery-electric subcompact crossover SUV offers more rear leg space as well as cargo capacity than the hatchback version. This comes thanks to the additional six inches in length.

The Bolt EUV shares the same battery pack and propulsion unit as the Bolt EV, giving it perky acceleration as well as a usable 247 miles of combined electric range. Initially, GM had planned to discontinue both the Bolt EV and EUV with production lasting only till 2023. However, a significant surge in sales prompted them to rethink their strategy. CEO Mary Barra has hinted at an overhaul for the little EV, but specifics about the new Bolt EV lineup’s arrival date remain unconfirmed.

Overview

The Chevrolet Traverse is a three-row SUV sitting above the Blazer but below the Tahoe. While the Traverse comes under the mid-size SUV classification, it is one of the bigger options in the class, outdoing most options in its cargo carrying capacity.

Nearly as comfortable as a minivan minus the stigma, the Traverse has one of the roomiest third-row seats of any of its competitors, and the second row is more spacious than some of the first rows of those competitors.

The previous generation Traverse (2018-2023) had a square-jawed, truck-like appearance, but the all-new 2024 model, especially in the RS trim, exudes a sporty and almost racy vibe.

Regardless of whether you opt for an older or newer model, you’ll enjoy a smooth and powerful engine quietly humming under the hood, coupled with a comfortable ride over rough terrain and composed handling around corners. This makes the Traverse an ideal companion for family road trips.

And in case you encounter a snowy road, the Traverse has enough capability to get you through without any fuss. In fact, the 2024 Traverse debuts the off-road focused Z71 trim with enhanced capability.

Overview

Stepping up from the Traverse is Chevy’s full-size SUV option Tahoe. Introduced in 1995, the Tahoe has been the go-to choice for families wanting to ditch the monotony of minivans, providing comfort for passengers while also handling trailer or camper towing duties.

The highlights are pretty simple – robust body-on-frame design coupled with gutsy V8 engines while serving passengers gargantuan amounts of space for a comfortable journey, making it the quintessential American vehicle. This has propelled the Tahoe as the best-selling large SUV in the U.S.

Despite its seemingly traditional approach, the Tahoe remains up-to-date with the times. The fifth generation, introduced in the 2021 model year, prioritized innovation.

For the first time, the Chevy Tahoe adopted an independent rear suspension, resulting in increased legroom in the third row—enough for adults to sit comfortably without feeling cramped. The cabin not only offers acres of space but also boasts high-quality materials and a plethora of creature comforts.

Most importantly, the large SUV now delivers noticeably improved handling and ride quality. With available magnetic ride control and air suspension, the big Chevy rides like a high-end luxury SUV.

Powertrain options not only include twin V8 options but also a torquey six-cylinder turbo diesel perfectly suited for all towing needs.

Finding the Perfect Chevy SUV for You

As you can see, Chevy really does offer SUV models ranging from smallest to largest. The subcompact Trax and Trailblazer are nimble, fuel-efficient and packed with new-age tech, great for economy-minded urban dwellers without the economy feel.

If you have a growing family and need something bigger and more comfortable without compromising on car-like handling characteristics, the Equinox is a solid step up.

Mid-size options like the Blazer’s muscle-car looks and performance are great if you are looking for something that stands out. On the other hand, the three-row mid-size Traverse or the gigantic full-size duos are something to eye for when the task at hand involves transporting up to nine individuals and their belongings while also bringing a camper along.

Carefully consider your cargo space and passenger needs, along with desired driving dynamics, to choose the perfect Chevy SUV for you.
